LED crystal systems: technical features and equipment
LED crystal systems are decorative lighting solutions that combine the aesthetics of crystal and advanced LED technologies. Such systems are becoming increasingly popular in residential interiors, hotels, boutiques and SPA complexes due to their spectacular appearance, energy efficiency and durability. For example, an interesting solution in the interior is the "starry sky" effect. And crystal diffusers give the light an exquisite play, scattering rays in intricate patterns. However, behind the beauty is a carefully thought-out design. In this article, we will consider the technical features and equipment of crystal LED systems.
What is a crystal LED system?
A crystal LED system is This is a set of lighting elements, which includes:
- decorative crystal diffusers;
- specialized LED modules or LEDs in protective housings;
- power supply with a high power reserve, adapted to a specific configuration;
- distribution devices, connecting wires, connectors;
- fastening elements;
- controllers (if necessary).
Our kits include 6 crystal diffusers (plus all the necessary equipment for them). The next kit for 6 crystals can be connected to such a kit. And so on. The maximum number is 36 crystal diffusers in a combined system. But it is also possible to design a custom system, depending on the architectural features of the room, the customer's wishes and the lighting area.
LEDs in protective housings
The key element of the system are LEDs installed in special housings designed for safe and efficient installation inside crystal diffusers.
Main features:
- Heat sink: the copper alloy housing provides reliable cooling and extends the service life of the diode.
- Narrow beam angle: LEDs with a narrow light scattering angle are used in order to accentuate the light flux inside the crystal, enhancing shine and scattering.
- Micro dimensions: For our systems, we use the highest quality and modern Japanese-made LEDs. Which, with the smallest possible dimensions, emit the maximum amount of light. Which allows you to mount diodes in miniature housings.
- Reliable fixation: the housing designs provide for precise installation in the crystal holes with anti-vibration fixation.
- Tightness (IP20-IP65): depending on the application (for example, moisture-proof housings can be used for wet rooms).
Power supplies: the heart of the system
Each LED system requires a stable and safe power supply. The power supplies (drivers) used are selected according to the following parameters:
- Supply voltage 12V DC. Which ensures maximum safety of the device as a whole. And stable operation of LEDs.
- Power: calculated for the total consumption of the entire system with a margin of at least 20%.
- Cooling type: passive (without a fan). Due to this, the system operates absolutely silently.
- Pulsation coefficient: as low as possible, this is important for visual comfort and reliability of crystal (especially in photo and video zones).
- Safety certificates: mandatory for use in residential and public spaces.
The power supply can be either built-in (in a ceiling niche) or taken out to the distribution board, especially in large-scale projects.
Distribution devices and wiring
Correct power and signal wiring is the key to stable operation of the entire system. The complete set of crystal LED systems includes:
Distribution modules
- Designed to connect several groups of LEDs.
- Made in the form of distribution boxes, with the ability to connect one box to the next in series. A maximum of 6 distribution boxes can be connected to one system (the total number of stars is 36 pcs.)
Wiring
- Cable type: most often, a thin wire of 2 x 0.5 mm² mm² with a copper core is used.
- Wire length: in a standard distribution block for 6 LEDs, the wire length is 3 m. We can manufacture individually upon request, depending on the layout of the lamps. Up to 10 m long. But in practice, the LED module is usually not located further than 5 meters from the distribution box.
- Cross-section and protection: wires are laid taking into account minimal voltage losses and fire safety. In some cases, you can use a corrugated pipe or cable channel.
Control and dimming
Many LED crystal systems support dimming (brightness control), as well as connection to scenario or intelligent control (for example, via DALI, DMX protocols or via an application).
This allows you to:
- adjust the illumination level for different tasks (bright lighting, night mode, romantic lighting);
- turn on the light according to a schedule;
- synchronize with other elements of the smart home.
Package: what is included in the standard set
Usually included in the delivery set of a LED crystal system includes:
- Crystal elements with holes for diodes.
- LED modules in the case, the number is the same as the number of diffusers.
- Power supply(s) corresponding to the total power.
- Distribution boxes or modules.
- Wires and connectors designed for the required length of the installation. Allowing you to connect the distribution boxes to each other.
- Installation instructions and connection diagram.
- Fasteners are a plastic mounting sleeve that is fixed in stretch or suspended ceilings.
Conclusion
Crystal LED systems are not just decorative lighting, but a full-fledged engineering design with a well-thought-out package. Technical elements such as reliable LEDs in special housings, power supplies, distribution devices and high-quality wiring ensure stable operation, safety and visual effect.
Before installation, it is important to accurately calculate the power, length of wires and number of light points, and entrust the installation to specialists. A properly selected and installed system will become a real decoration of the interior and will please the eye for many years.
